Day 176: Pretty, Happy, Funny, Real

{Pretty}

I asked a few days ago about posting skirt pics, and people DO like the skirts. So I’m back to throwing up pics of my simple little outfits.

{Happy}

I’m so so so happy that this boy

now LOVES to swim! Yay!!!!

{Funny}

On your mark! Get set! GOOOO!

{Real}

Since Leila posted about picky eating the other day, I thought I’d share one of the little things that I do on the food front. I make a whole bunch of hard boiled eggs and keep them in the fridge in an easy access tupperware. This is the perfect “fast food” and I find that so so often I am hustling the kids into the car at 9:30am (this summer it was for swimming lessons) and realize that they’ve barely had anything more than Rice Crispies for breakfast. Cereal really isn’t the kind of food that lasts in the tummy, but eggs are! So I grab three (or four if I need one) eggs and hustle myself into the car. Before we pull out of the driveway, I’m peeling eggs and passing them back and the kids eat something nutritious as we drive.

Day 173- Memory Days

Today was a special day. It was the last day that A and N (sorry, I’m feeling the need to be a bit more incognito with their names) shared a preschool day together.

I hate transitions! UGH! Maybe I just hate feeling all emotional about endings and beginnings. I’m a worrier so transitions sort of bring that out in me even more. Nevertheless, I had to capture this day and all the sweet memories of this wonderful school year of them sharing preschool. Singing songs about the days of the week, months of the year, playing with fake food and funky over-used baby dolls that are shoved into the front of their shopping carts, riding super-heavy steel tricycles with squeaky wheels, making crafts with glue bottles that are always stuck, and SHARE TIME! Oh their favorite part of the whole day, where the teacher pulls one of their toys from home from a box and the child jumps up, claims his toy, and tells the kids what he brought. This is so exciting for the kids (all of the preschool kids just get so jazzed with this) and they always get that sweet smile. The day ends with a song of “skidamarink a dink a dink” and a sticker.

Good stuff. Good memory days.

Also in my mental memory book, are all these days of seeing the kids run home after picking up Sister from school.

Have a wonderful day!

Day 152- White Dinner!

First of all, I was happy to have my last post featured on This is a Woman’s Weekly Awesome list. Thanks Bonnie!

I haven’t done a Pretty, Happy, Funny, Real in a few weeks and I’ve missed joining the fun. One silly thing we did this week was have a White Dinner. I had some cauliflower in the fridge and white fish in the freezer so I told the kids “Guess what? We should have a white dinner where everything is white!” and they thought that was a great idea and came up with all sorts of things we could have for our dinner.

Because some of my motivation for having a white dinner was to use items we already had on hand, the final menu ended up being:

White fish, cauliflower, rice, white corn tortilla chips, milk, and vanilla ice cream with bananas.

Francesca had the idea to use a white table cloth and our white plates and cups and white plastic ware. I thought that was a great idea!

We are already planning next week for our Yellow Dinner. I’m currently thinking about something along the lines of curry chicken, corn or squash, cornbread, maybe saffron rice, lemonade (a neighbor gave us a bunch of lemons). Maybe some canned pineapple for dessert. We’ll see!

I haven’t been quite as skirty as of late (even though there are two times last week that I forgot to take my picture) probably because it is cold and I’ve learned that I really prefer cozy-wear when it’s chilly. So I’m not able to post quite as frequently, but I’m still here!

Have a wonderful day!

Day 148- Sweet moments

At the park today, my friends and I noticed that all the “little girls” had gathered at the picnic table and seemed to be having a gab-fest.

This was quite charming to see because these are the little ones aged 2-4 and it was as though they really “found” each other for the first time. We tend to focus on our bigger kids and their friendships so it was cute to see these new little friendships forming.

My dear friend Courtney is about to have her baby very soon. This week? Next week? We’re all excited for her and ready to learn if she has a boy or her fourth girl!

My skirt for the day. This is multi-tasking at its finest since I’m chewing and taking this pic at the same time. Why I thought that’d be a great idea I don’t know.

There is a big difference in the dressy-factor between my skirt and what I ended up wearing later in the afternoon to the park.

Have a wonderful day!

Day 127- 12 Days of Christmas

{Pretty}

For the first time, we’re observing the 12 days of Christmas

with the Christ candle and one lit for Mary too.

I always thought the 12 days were part of Advent!! Wrong! Being that I wasn’t raised in the church, many things never made sense to me. What is the Eucharist? What is Pentecost? What is Epiphany? Maundy Thursday???

Well now I know. So hopefully these small rituals will help guide my children into knowing the church calendar and major events. With all the gift-giving these kids have experienced in the last week, I’m deciding if they should open one last small gift on the 6th. Hmmm?

{Happy}

My favorite gift! Oh boy! Ever since I had that moment of brilliance to put together puzzles on a foam board (because you can pick it up and move it out of the way when you need to use the table!), it’s become my favorite way to kill time.

{Funny}

My other favorite gift! The most unattractive pajamas of all time. I feel super-silly in these, like a big ol’ rabbit. But they ARE really warm and cozy!

{Real}

Need to do any last minute gift-giving? Like for a family member who comes into town that you didn’t know you’d be seeing??? Make this Winter Granola. It’s really tasty and people appreciate having a healthier snack after all the holiday cookies. A great way to re-purpose spaghetti and pickle jars!

Have a wonderful day! (I can’t believe it’s warm enough in late December to be sleeveless with flip-flops. But I’ll take it!)

Bright skies and Christmas lights

No skirt today. But I’m linking to Pretty, Happy, Funny, Real anyways just to share!

{Pretty}

You can have your white Christmas.

I’ll take this instead

{Happy}

because then you can do stuff like ride bikes to the park when your girl is on school vacation.

Adam’s not crying, it’s just the sun. (That came later.)

{Real}

It’s a little over 2 miles to the park. I love this park day and was glad that we were still able to meet up with friends today even with the busyness of Christmas! There is nothing like a sunny park day with my pals to decompress.

Here I am ready to go back home. This was a nice little trek although Adam was crying and whining the whole way home because he was already tired from his 2 hours of playing. Such is life.

{Pretty}

In the evening, I up and decided to take the kids to see Christmas lights since I knew Jason wouldn’t be home from work until late anyways.

The whole street was super decked out. It’s really difficult to convey in pictures how spectacular all these lights looked against the night sky.

Here was the Disney Princess house.

{Funny}

With Tinkerbell high above!

I thought this was cute…and true!

{Real}

Many of the homes sold goodies from their driveway. Some kids played music. There were girl scout carolers and high school carolers as well.

Such a neat street, although if you live here I imagine it’s a lot of pressure to keep up with the Joneses!

{Happy}

Here we are (with my dad) in front of the Hawaiian house posing with Surfin’ Santa.

Have a wonderful day and a blessed Christmas!

Day 93- Pretty, Happy, Funny, Real (Halloween edition)

Mama likes fun party hair!

Adam wanted to be a spider for Halloween. I convinced him to be Spiderman because I didn’t know how to do a spider costume. He didn’t like the Spiderman costume with muscles, so I convinced him to just get some Spiderman zip-up pajamas. When he put them on his sister said “That’s not a costume! Those are PaJAmas!” (Thanks kid.) So he didn’t want to wear the Spiderman pajamas. Hence, I put him in other pajamas and wrapped him in toilet paper, dusted on some baby powder, applied some brown eyeliner to his lips and Viola! A mummy. He really liked this costume. That is until every kid he saw said “Why are you wearing Tooooilet Paper!?” (Does anyone have creativity anymore? SHEESH!) So then he was sulking about his new costume the rest of the night.

As for Frannie, once in awhile it pays to not get rid of stuff. That sparkly tutu number she’s wearing was an old dance costume of mine. Now she makes an excellent witch!

Princess Minnie Mouse was a last minute costume dig through the dress ups. I saw the ears. Check. Found the dress. Check. A bit of brown eyeliner to the nose and cheeks and now someone’s an adorable princess Mouse.

I took the kids over to Natasha’s neighborhood for trick-or-treating. There is better action over there and I knew the kids would have more fun being all together. (See how Adam is sulking? lol poor kid.)

Here’s today’s skirt.

Have a wonderful day!
